Glowing shells of gas ejected by a dying Sun-like star, lit by the hot stellar remnant.
Planetary nebulae
Despite the name, they have nothing to do with planets. Aging stars shed outer layers; ultraviolet light from the exposed core ionizes the shells into colorful nebulae before the remnant cools as a white dwarf.
